Q:  I’ve been hearing a lot about raw food diets recently. How do I know if it is safe for my dog and cat?
    show answer...
    A:  close answer...
The safest method in feeding a raw diet is to buy a pre-made frozen raw food, as it has been formulated by a nutritionist to be completely balanced, and is prepared in a facility meeting the standards of the pet food industry. Raw food diets should be made from fresh human-grade meats, fruits & vegetables, and frozen immediately to preserve all the nutrients and enzymes, and to prevent bacterial growth on the food. When handled properly, fresh frozen raw food diets do not present a threat from pathogenic bacteria. And in healthy animals, canine and feline digestive tracts, very different from our own, can easily handle a mild bacterial presence in their food.

Keep in mind that raw foods can be added to a dry food kibble as a healthy supplement, or fed as a complete diet, depending on the needs of the animal.

If you are interested in preparing your own raw food diet at home, please use a proven recipe to guarantee balanced nutrition.

Q:  Hi, I have a raod bike. What are teh simplest things I can do to keep it in good shape?
    show answer...
    A:  close answer...
Typically, road bikes are easier than mountain bikes because you don't have to deal with mud. If it does get dirty, just take a damp rag and wipe it down. There are some commercial cleaning products available too that can help. Probably the most important thing you can do is to keep your chain lubricated. There are lots of good lubes, but I would find one and stick with it. It's not always a good idea to mix them. Depending on how many miles you ride, you may want to have a shop do a tune up on it at least once a year, too. They can check for wear on the chain, the chain rings (front) and the cassette or cogs (rear).

Q:  How can I be sure I am getting the right size bike for me?
    show answer...
    A:  close answer...
It depends somewhat on the style of bike it is. Road bikes are sized differently than mountain bikes, for example. No matter what, you should be able to stand over the frame with at least a couple of inches to spare. Even more important is how the "reach" feels while you're pedaling. You should be able to ride with your arms in a relaxed position, not locked and straight. The saddle should be set at a height that allows you to straighten your leg at the bottom and have your heel a little lower than the ball of your foot. A good fitting bicycle will allow you to ride comfortably for many miles, while a bad fit will make you tired and sore!
