Joann "The Lunchlady"

Joann
The LunchLady grew up in New York . It was in high school were she became curious about the deejays and music of WLIR, New York.Graduating from SUNY New Paltz with a degree in Communication and Communication Law, she moved to Taos, New Mexico in the early 90's to open a restaurant/nightclub.When that didn't work out, she strolled over to the KTAO studios and got hired to work nights at the station. She moved into middays after her talent started to emerge, and was given the job of MD.
While handling the Music Director responsibilities at KTAO, she bumped into Ira Gordon at a Triple A conference in Boulder, Colorado - and the rest is history. The Lunchlady started working with KBAC in 1996 She left the station in 2003 to help start blu 102.9 and enjoy a brief, but fierce, non-compete law suit from Clear Channel Communications. It was the early summer of 2007, she was asked by Ira to once again take over KBAC's midday airshift. Check out The Lunchlady on KBAC, 98.1 - Radio Free Santa Fe from 11am-3pm.
Lunch Scraps
wow
Dear Diary ( kidding -sort of)
Michael Franti has come and gone this summer. This has been one of the most gorgeous Autumns I remember. Last year was probably just as beautiful, but I am in the moment. We are in the midst of planning a fabulous anniversary party as KBAC turns 14! I know!!! 14...stay tuned for all the par-tay details. If it's one thing I've learned in the years - KBAC staff ( AKA: ME) and crew like to "Get Down" and your invited . Keep listening for details....
April 24th
Finally Friday and finally Spring. It was snowing here in Santa fe one week ago - today sunny and 70's All is good. 'Patio Club" has officially started for me and my crew and we are soaking up the sun , checking out the new flowers and laughing with good wine, food and friends! Woo Hoo - another favorite part of Spring is the rag tops and sandals!( the toes are out!)
The station is rocking this morning with House Band Friday and Soul Man Sam live in studio with Honey. Man- Sam is singing some great jazz standards right now that is freakin' awesome - we need to play more jazz on house band Fridays. Remember to vote in the Santa Fe Reporter's best of poll - log on to their site and vote for your favorite KBAC jock!!
Amber and Catherine ( Rock Of Love Girls) were so much fun to interview. Go to Sound Bytes - and interview and have a laugh as Ira and I interview the girls.
On a personal note - I have become a Great Aunt. Such a staunchy term - but I guess noble and regal in it's own right. Jaxson John was born last Friday and I will have to plan a trip back to New York to see the little man! Vacation- mmmmm - a beach would be nice!
April 2
March was a month that came and went for yours truly. March 1st saw the first ever Wedding fair at the new convention center, and we ended the month up at the Jeff Gladfelter annual mogel competition at Ski Santa Fe. Crazy fun, crazy busy. Brett Dennen was in studio last week- check out the audio on soundbytes. Heard that was a great show. Interesting guy...he's on his way up for sure.
Bret Michaels is coming to Buffalo Thunder and apparently the "Rock of Love" girls will be live in studio- this outta be interesting. Ira and I might tag team this interview. Got any questions I should ask the "ladies"?
March 4th
Hey- what is going on? I have been busy behind the scenes to help coordinate our first Wedding Fair 2009 - you missed a good party! Keep your eye out for it next February.
Posted some great studio 2's - just go to soundbytes and click on the podcast section.
I just saw the time- gotta get down to the studio -
January 19
All good- with a blog post like that below you probably thought I packed up and left town. NOPE-just on vacation. Headed out to California on a massive road trip. I mean massive. Santa Fe to Phoenix. Booked over to San Diego for three days of rain ( yeah- I know!)Up to Hermosa Beach, downtown L.A., night in Santa Barbara, up the coastal highway to Monteray, to San Francisco for a few nights, up to Sonoma to sip some wine , booked it down through Bakersfield to spend New year's Eve in Santa Monica. Drive to Joshua Tree, spend the day in the JP park, back to Phoenix, dinner in Albuquerque, and back to Santa Fe!! I am exhausted just typing about it! It really was an amzing road trip and the coastal towns of California were all gorgeous in their own right.I felt like a band on tour- sorry baby, I'd love to stay- but I gotta go...... kinda feeling... here's universal studio's and the wild animal park.
You know me..have to feed the animals - that's why I am the lunchlady!

After a few days back here at the radio ranch- I took off to New York to visit with my family .That was this past weekend. It was REALLY cold, and the news story was about the US airways jet that went down in the Hudson River. The weather was 10 degrees and I am happy to be back in the desert.
December 17
A major storm blew through the past two days and the snow was a welcoming vision. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the unseasonal. mild temps,we had in November. I was grilling up into last week- love the ease of the grill. Packed up and covered now - so back to the slow cooker and lots of over roasting. That's cool. All seasonal.
Ready for the holidays. Right around the corner. been thinking on New Year's slogans with my girls..
Fine in 09
Less whine in 09
09 is all mine
all corny, but that's what I do with my friends. Slogan out the New Year and move forward.
I am the kind of person that looks at my life at the beginning of the New Year. Access the future, the present, see where I'm at, and will it serve me to continue in the New Year. It eases up the pressure of
asking yourself every week if your happy, okay..I guess it is that endurance athlete I want to be.
Look at the goal. Strive for the goal and enjoy the process and work of attaining the goal.
WOW_I'll stop there :-)
November 7
What an emotional, exhausting, election week this has been. History has been made and we were around to be a part of it. Let's move forward and be a stronger people and a stronger nation. This was the election that had our youth talking and becoming a part of their politics, their future. So exciting.
Aside from the election, everything seems quiet now. I am resting my injury and walking alot - still taking the running very slow and short. I can walk all I want. The colder weather, and the time change threw me a bit-whats that call.. "SED". I have been trying to get out in the sun and air. I miss that the most after the marathon training - I mean your pounding the pavement for hours every weekend. I had a great tan going!!
The holidays are quickly approaching - AHHHH. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Food, friends- what more could you ask for. No ackward gift exchanges, just a turkey,( or tofurkey) some mashed potatoes and my Mother's ( rest her soul) all time favorite side dish cranberry relish right from the can with NO disquise - right out of the can with indintations and all. YUCK. Looked wrong, moved wrong when carried to the table - NO thanks. Ah- the memories. As I get older, I get more nostalgic for those traditions to pass on to my daughter.
Sunday night here at the house, all is peaceful as we prepare for the week ahead. Trying to finish reading the Sunday NY Times - enjoying a glass of vino by the fire..(insert - I'll be snoring in 10 minutes!)
Later.
October 24
I got to run a two miler the other day. I was very apprehensive, but it worked out ok. Thanks to my PT, Cameron, looks like I'll be back out on the road again. Although , it is freezing out there in the morning. I prefer the cooler temps as summer training was brutal. I'm spinning, and lifting, etc...but the best part of PT is the massage!! My coach and I are talking about another attempt in January 2010 .
The holiday season is quickly approaching. I cannot believe Halloween is next week. Some of my neighbors totally deck out there yards-very fun stuff. I love the little kids dressed as bees, ducks, cowboys, and princesses. Not sure if I'll be dressing up this year. I do have to come up with something for the Wonderland Gala at El Museo. Alice in Wonderland theme - any suggestions?? ( fast and easy) would be helpful -e-mail me at joann@kbac.com!
October 14
It is a big "NO'. My physical therapist let me attempt to run a mile this last weekend. Good news- my calf felt okay. I had heels on Saturday night, which is no-no to me therapist, but I went to a friend's wedding and was not gonna get all dolled up and wear flats. That just ain't my thing! So I cancelled my hotel room for race day. I was to run the Des Moines, Iowa race. I know that a lot of you have prepared for the Albuquerque Duke City run this weekend. best of luck, be strong, and run smart. I'll get out on the road with you next year. I get to try and run two miles before my next PT session on Thursday- fingers crossed,
otherwise, it looks like I'll be spinning with Suzanne and Jeanne! That ain't so bad - right girls.....
October 1
well- doesn't look as though I will get to run the full marathon. I am VERY bummed but have to keep focused and heal. My coach tells me there are plenty of other races to run- so I will continue to do my physical therapy, get myself healed and try again. I might just see if I can accomplish the half marathon, which is only 12 miles on race day. I have been medically ordered to bike, swim, gentle stretching - but not run. Boo Hoo! I started this 15 weeks ago to get in shape, get healthy and I am feeling pretty good - just have to adjust mentally on a new goal.
October is here and the weather is GORGEOUS so I can't really complain.
September 23
I have been very fortunate to have gone through weeks of running without injury. I am training for a race on October 19. Last week on my long run I pulled both lower calf muscles. I was feeling great, the weather was crisp and I should have just kept my pace. So rest, ice, elevate the legs, etc all last week. This past Sunday I go out to test the muscles and tear my left calf. I have to see a doctor and hope that this can heal for me to actually run the race I have been training for since June. I have been spinning on my bike, but that is not the same. I am mentally unprepared for not reaching my goal of finishing the race. Never crossed my mind. I was feeling strong. However, I have to have a good talkin' to with myself , regroup and possibly find a new destination to run a marathon, or maybe a half. Who knows...The Doctor will tell me either way. Fingers crossed.
September 16
hey- it's been awhile. I've been crazy busy! We had Zozobra ( google it - trust me) and Fiesta weekend the 6th and 7th.
The always fun Pet Parade - where kids of all ages with their pets of all kinds ( turtles, snakes, chickens, dogs, cats, parrots, iguanas, etc.)come to the plaza to be blessed. There's plenty of celebration on the plaza.
The historical, hysterical parade on Sunday.
JJ Grey was at the Brewing Company, followed by John Hiatt the next night. Rested up on Thursday because Friday night kicked off the Rail yard grand opening . Found myself sipping chardonnay at the Railyard Restaurant. Louis, Carter and the crew throwing a great party out front in the parking lot.
Saturday and Sunday was the official Railyard park opening. Great weekend. The weather couldn't have been better and the whole community was out in good spirits. The bounty of the harvest rolling in at the Farmer's Market, and some urban architecture to absorb - I had a smile all day.
I wasn't smiling on Sunday though. I woke up with a spring in my step and a great mental attitude to get in my 18 mile run, part of my marathon training. Alright, everything is looking good. Great crisp morning air, new shorts, new socks and some new inserts for my shoes. Start out the door, feeling good, go around the block - feeling good. Start heading out on the big course and my left calf starts screaming at me. Stop, massage it out, get moving again. Going up a large hill, feeling strong and WHAM- my right calf snaps and
I'm on the ground. Call the house, have some one come get me and I've been on ice, rest, and anti- inflammatory meds. My mentor and friend, Coach Liz, tells me I'll be fine and to wear more supportive shoes when I am out and about on all these events, and I quote..." flip flops are not your friend Lunch lady".
I love to wear heels, but have to put aside for awhile.So... if you see me out in my orthodic shoes, give me a pat on the back and say "26.2 baby"!!!
" I'm feeling alright today, still a bit tight in the right calf, but not as painful, or sad. I became very depressed that my hard work in all this training came to a screeching halt on Sunday. I imagined not even getting to be at the race. I have been at this goal since June. My entire summer spent running. Not a bad thing, just had to work myself to get into shape, get more sleep, eat better, take care of myself, that kinda thing. It is much easier to sit outside with a martini after work than strap on a pair of sneakers and go for a run. I have finally turned the corner and now enjoy and look forward to my time alone with my thoughts and my training. Light a candle for me that I will be ok the next spin around the neighborhood...Thanks!
September 1
you missed it! Thirsty Ear- Junior Brown.. Check this out:
August 29
baseball season is done as far as the Isotopes go and we are getting ready to burn Zozobra! Where has this summer gone? More importantly- how am I gonna blow off work and goof off at the stadium ( gasp!)
Marathon training has had a step back week - which I needed badly. This weekend I am back out there- with a 15 mile run. Last week was a little 8 miler which was great because I had partied with some friends
for my birthday. I do enjoy the cooler weather now- summer training is tough and HOT when your not a morning person.I'll see you out there this weekend somewhere.
August 18
Have a good weekend? We were at The Farmer's Market on Saturday morning. I help collect produce
for The Food Depot. The farmers have been extremely generous and it is great to be able to distribute fresh , local crops to the clients and agencies of The Food Depot. Find out more about Northern New Mexico's food bank at thefooddepot.org. Went out to lunch, had some vino, chilled out and played tourist in the Guadalupe district. Have been trying to stay up and catch all the Olympic action. Sunday got out and ran 14 miles. I had driven the route by car on Saturday afternoon - and was exhausted driving it! Got it done and was toast yesterday afternoon . What about that hail storm?- that was crazy. Had to medicate the dog she was so freaked out. Nothing better than a doped up old lab ..Had some birthday libations with my friends last night and snoring in front of the Olympics - again! I just settle in and I'm done. Had every intention to head to the Toots show, but after these double digit runs - no dice. Day off from training today.
August 14
I am exhausted. Burning the candle at all ends these days. Work hard, play harder. First off training - Had to run 7 miles on Tuesday - that was okay. Ran after work so I was a bit drained from the day's responsibilities. After 12 miles on Sunday, I felt somewhat recouped but, to pound out another 7 in such a quick turnaround - has left me looking for food and a massage!
We were up playing around at the grand opening of Buffalo Thunder. Go up and check it out for yourself.
Went with the family to see UB40 last night. That was great, but dragging a bit today. Taking my daughter to the opera tonight - this is her first time.Should be good and sleepy tomorrow. Get out there and enjoy summer - it's gonna be gone before ya know it.
August 10
I was loading these photos late last night- sorry about the size - wow- Lyle that really is large!! ( HA)
anyway- it was a fab night and I was sleepy this morning but I got my 12 miles in. I'm not discussing it.
Got it done. Feel accomplished. I can say that my appetite has increased and I run thinking about food. I am in that faze of GU. It's energy gel, that looks like clear hair gel and tastes of whatever the flavor is you like. Vanilla , coffee, fruit- kinda nasty but really works. Plus ,had to go buy some non-friction gel to keep blisters and raw spots at bay. Yup- getting into the adult portion of the program. I call my coach on the phone now and whisper my issues. I couldn't even begin to discuss it at the store counter.
Anyway- Here are the winners from last night. Scott and his wife ( in the green skirt. She made cookies for Lyle, that's what he's holding) The other winner is Judy - she is in the red top and her daughter is with her. Fun people. here's the photo and a clip of Lyle. I figured how to change the size of the photo.
I'm not such a dork after all :-)

August 4
Bummer about EmmyLou Harris. She canceled her show here in Santa Fe this weekend. Lyle is here this Saturday/ Always a magical experience at the Paolo with Lyle. Have you seen the Indian School Campus? Looks like a war zone! The demolished a bunch of buildings and the rubble is just sitting there. Looks eerie.
It is so hot! I hope this weather breaks soon. I tried to get out earlier in the morning to run, rolled over and snoozed instead.Ended up getting my mileage on the treadmill. That wasn't fun. At least I didn't pass out from heat stroke and sunburn. This is what I am learning -I prefer winter training! It is easier to get warmer than it is to cool off.Still have two months to go in my training.
July 30
Where is the time going? it's almost August. July 4th seems like decades ago..crazy.
Just got back from San Francisco. Quick weekend away. It is so beautiful (and expensive there).
I didn't get any running in as I walked all my mileage. Training is going okay - feeling healthy, positive.
I' m in a slow week which is a much needed break. Just a few miles. Next couple of weeks we get into the teens! ( gasp) Amazing how the body adapts.
Emmy Lou Harris at The Paolo this weekend. There is someone who gets prettier with time. Just a demure
singer songwriter - a legend. maybe I'll see you out there.
July 23
I wrote this huge entry yesterday, and in my haste to get out and run- I forgot to save it . Oh well.
So in the last 48 hours I have run 16 miles! Ask Ira about how I did NOT want to go. It was after work, hot humid and I grumbled all the way uphill - get to the turn around and I was singing and enjoying the downhill.
Not matter how crappy it feels to get started - it is great at the finish. Makes you feel like you accomplished a goal.( You did , really)Anyway-
The Tour De France today is THE climb! I watched part of it this morning and can't wait to see the highlights tonight. This is the most brutal part of the tour, The L'Alpe-de'Huez - the highest mountain in Europe.
Unbelievable to watch. The spectators are CRAZY, the cyclists are beyond pain and it is just brutal.
I peaked at the results to see who summited the Col de la Bonnette first. I need to see it for myself. Incredible determination by these cyclists. One day I will see in person. I think a lot about the mental and physical strength of these riders when I feel tired and don't want to train. If the weather is less than pleasant..it really helps to continue the determination of one's goal.
Thanks for the responses on how to keep my dog calm during storms. My friend Jeanne wrote to get a small, tight fitting shirt to calm the dog and it makes sense. I have not had the opportunity to try , but the cocooning aspect seems appropriate. BTW- The tight t-shirt goes on the dog so don't go there!!
The Best Of The Reporter comes out today..we are all waiting to read the details and winners.
July 17
Arriverderci to team Ricco! In the Tour De France - Ricco ( from the Italian team) was caught doping and now gone. Kinda silly I think to take the chance now that the cycling rules have changed. Now- if your sample comes back "abnormal"...you can just say bye bye. Whole team, all that training and time, GONE. Sad really.
Training for me is going okay. Getting my required mileage in. Not pretty, but getting it done. Passed a few listeners tonight which was fun. Heard a few "go lunchladys", thank you for that support. The smaller miles after the big runs are difficult. I am still sore and working through that- I am tired, trying to keep mentally positive.I haven't been sleeping well. My dog, a black lab, a mature gal, is afraid of thunder, so needless to say with all the moisture we have been experiencing for the high desert, she has kept me up. Oh- I have tried some doggie downers but she still paces and drools, just a bit more slowly!!Last night's storm rolled by the house about midnight. So here she comes pacing the floor by me. I tell her all the time ( like she understands) that she is a water dog, agility and speed, hunting breed. She walks over with her stuffed gorilla/squirrel/beaver/rawhide in her mouth( no wonder she drools!) and will just breath in my face that lovely warm , smelly, you haven't cleaned my teeth, but loveable , dog breath. As soon as the late evening rains stop- I'll get a good nights sleep. Speak of the devil here she comes now in the office- I thought I heard a clap of thunder.
July 15
Get a long little doggies- what's up? good weekend? I helped a friend move. She asked me to help her paint some doors. I realized at that moment, while holding a roller, that I have never painted a door before.
Crazy realization. I immediately was made fun of for the rest of the day. Call me a snob if you wish, just let it be known that I have mowed lawns, cleaned many rooms, raked gutters, etc.... paint a door - NOPE.
Sunday was out on the road getting my training in. Actually got 8 miles done. I was wiped out afterwards. It was nice and overcast and cool temperature when I started . The sun came blazing out and heated up 15 degrees and I was done. Toast. Stick a fork in her and get her off the grill done. Slowly the body adapts, but, right now I am just achy. I am not whining - just keeping you up to date and maybe get you inspired.
Was glued to the Tour De France last night. The Non-category climbs and decents- SICK!! Unbelievable athletes.
July 11
Morning campers. Another grey rainy day. Was out on the plaza last night for the summer bandstand
series. Great live music through August. Mon- Thurs nights at 6. It was World music night for the Folk Art Market. I have to laugh- when the drum circle kicked in people were shaking their money makers.
Even Mayor Coss!! We had a laugh about that together.
It rained buckets which was beautiful and ended up being a fab night. We tried to go eat at La Boca but word to the wise - make a reservation. We got turned away. Jim's little tapas hideaway has become
VERY popular. I personally believe that I should decide if, and how long I'll wait for a table but, I understand they have space limitations and time restrictions. I am used to just strolling around and eating when we'd like, but it is the height of the tourist season so make those rezzies! Call ahead.
I just couldn't haul my lazy butt out this morning- so I'll get my required mileage in for the marathon training this afternoon. I started watching the Tour De France and got sucked in by the couch.
July 9
Training is back on schedule. ran my required distance this morning. Get a day to cross train too, which is nice. Not all about hitting the pavement. I am tired and my body is sore- but a good sore. Just have to make sure I am eating right, sleeping well, and stretching. The training is getting into longer runs , not double digits yet - that's still a few weeks away. That's when it gets really trippy. I am fortunate enough to hit a zone and just keep moving. That body work session I had on Monday eased a lot of pain out of my knee. Incredible really. I'll be back for more sessions.
Gotta go get ready to head down to the radio ranch. Have a great day.
July 7
9am
Monday morning after a nice, long holiday weekend. Check out my blog if you'd like to know how I felt about the fireworks on the 4th.
I am off to Body this morning as I have a scheduled hour and a half body work session. I forget what this is called-but-there are two people working either side of you. I think they might even walk on your back. I have no clue what to expect. I was told that each person has a very different experience. If I sound strange on the air today-it is because I am a pile of mush. I didn't run today as I figure it would help to not have a build up of lactic acid before this massage/body work. (training denial)
Wish me luck- I'll write more when I get back and let you know how it was.
1:30pm
Well- it was quite the experience at Body this morning!! It was more like an inner energy /shakra moving experience. There is very gentle touch/massage but is really an amazing experience. The women work synchronisticly ( is that a word?) on either side and across your body. pretty trippy stuff. VERY relaxing.
It's a practice called the Dalahare method. The facilitators are Daurese Rene and Launi Hansen.
Call Body ( on Cordova Road) and ask about a session. Gotta go back on the air now.
July 3
Have been out of town and just got back yesterday. Spent a few days back home on Long Island. My nephew got married and spent time with my family. It was so much fun to be back home. The food, the beach, the greenery - it looks like a jungle, it is so green- and nothing beats New Yorkers.! Can't get enough of em'. We spent a day bumming around my college town of New Paltz, NY and the legendary institution of Mohonk Mountain House. I waited tables there all through school. Waited on Regis Philbin and Stephen King back in the day.
The next day we cruised out to the Hamptons. I went to Southampton College before I transferred up to New Paltz. Totally spaced out the Hamptons are in FULL swing. Fun, crazy times we had out there.
Waited on too many famous people out there at The Buttery. Breakfast joint right on Main Street.
I have to learn how to actually upload photo's from my camera. have to get a quick "how to" from Barb our web goddess. tomorrow is the 4th- pancakes, nap, Radio free IPA tasting at The Catamount from 5 to 7,Fireworks and Leon Russell at The Brewing Co.- I'm already dragging my butt- gotta rally kids
Get out there.
Oh yeah -Don't ask about training right now - I ate and drank way too much in New York! I ran a bit but the humidity was thick and i just wilted like the delicate flower i am ( yeah)
I'll get back on track next week.
June 24
Know your all going be thinking we jumped off the deep end here, but, Ira and I were just talking about Jello Pudding Pops and for some weird reason, I have the memory of Buddy Hackett being the spokesperson prior to Bill Cosby. You just never know where a conversation might go with us in this office we share together - but- here is a classic Hackett routine that might jog your memory. I found the Johnnie Carson
bit - prefer Dean in that skit. Anyway- I will continue to search for the commercial. No one seems to remember this but me, please if you remember anything- e-mail me Joann@kbac.com

June22
This is the amazing transformation of Site Santa Fe for the Lucky Number 7 Biennial. You are forced in a sense to observe the art according to the ramps that meander and transform the Site space. There is even a surprise that awaits at the top to those who wish to sign the waiver! The art is not in this model. I recommend you embrace this Santa Fe.
There are numerous installations around other art spaces and museums in town. Get out to the opera parking lot to see the plastic bottle works on the lamp posts. get all the info at their website, or pick up maps at Site Santa Fe.
I have noticed more coverage of Santa Fe and our art scene in the New York Times recently. This photo is actually from an article. Just Go to Site and check it out.
June 20
Had a chance to run up to the Buckaroo Ball Shootout yesterday at Towa @ Buffalo Thunder.
The new resort facility, Buffalo Thunder" is HUGE! I have seen from the highway but yesterday drove around the outside of the facility - wow. Anyway , big Buckaroo Weekend. Travis Tritt tomorrow night at The Ball,
cocktail parties and brunches await this weekend! ( can you say my training will be set-off a little!)Thanks to all the golfers I met yesterday. Looked like everyone had a great time.
We saw Wishful Drinking at the Lensic, with Carrie Fisher. Wonderful theater to be brought here to Santa Fe. She is brutally honest about her upbringing, her famous parents and her life's turns and
troubles. Stays with you for awhile. Just great theater, associate producer is the Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
Check out the pod casts - Honey's interview with Carrie is up and ready for you to hear.
My training has been off this week..crazy busy and I am REALLY bad at dragging my butt outta bed - which is one of those things ya gotta over come as the marathon usually starts at 4am , or some insane time of day that I used to go to bed at!!!
June 18
week three of marathon training and I am feeling it. The run is in October - seems like a long time from
now . A dauntingly LONG time. The training is basically run, run some more and than enjoy a day off,and run some more! Weeks, ......Months of this............. WHAT WAS I THINKING?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
Congrats to the Boston Celtics!! Nice they had their amazing win on home turf!
June 16
I would just like to send respect and condolences to the family of Tim Russert. I was in shock on Friday. He was a anchor with integrity and an outstanding man in this crazy business. I enjoyed his weekend program, and found him to be a great interviewer. Compassion for the guest, but he wasn't afraid to ask the tough question. I always wanted to be a newscaster. I do have a degree in radio and TV. Worked in a station upstate New York in Kingston. Worked with the anchors, edited tape, go operate the camera for the reporter's, run the teleprompter, etc..never made it.That being said-
Welcome to Monday! Quiet around the Hutton habitat today. I think everyone had a good weekend.I am exhausted from watching Tiger and Rocco in the US Open. Tiger was just in excruciating pain on certain golf shots. was hard to watch- but what an athlete! Have to go online and look at the leader board. Than last night I thought the Lakers were gonna give it to Boston. Nope. All the better for Boston to win on their home turf. Go Celtics.
Week three of training gets underway today. My legs are tired, my body is in shock, and my brain is going...Hello? what the heck are you doing? I'll be out there getting my miles in tonight. It is SO easy to just sit, drink wine, eat really good Italian food and watch something fun on television.! I started training so I could eat more fabulous Italian creations. Coming from the east coast nothing says comfort food like a big ol' lasagna.Although it is too hot to cook inside so a nice grilled shrimp/chicken ceaser salad and some grilled pesto bread- Yeah now we are talking. Now I 'm hungry....
FRIDAY THE 13-
Spooky! So far so good. how's your day going? Just got back from The Lodge at Chama. Beautiful property in Chama , New Mexico. About 90 miles NW of Santa Fe. World class hunting and fishing. I don't do either of those, just enjoyed a hike and getting out of the downtown heat for awhile. It was 25 degrees in the morning.
here are some photos. Go to the website www.thelodgeatchama.com. The rooms are well appointed. It is a hunting and fishing lodge, so there are lots of animals mounted on the wall (FYI) . it is an all inclusive and dinner, breakfast and drinks are included in your reservation price. We had a very relaxing time. There is a spa, workout room and whirlpool tub. The vistas are breath taking as the lodge is mounted on top of the hill.
Marathon training is in week two. Week one went great as I spent the weekend in Phoenix at The Tapatio Cliffs resort in Phoenix. Very easy start to the training program - as I played golf and swam, and enjoyed frozen adult beverages poolside...( with a bit of running)
Week two has hit me between the eyes with the realism of my goal. I'm getting my training in and feeling okay. Thanks to Coach Liz at the Running Hub. She set me up with great sneakers, my schedule, and support. She trained me across the 26.2 mile finish line in 2005. I had a minor blowout at the 21 mile and had to walk the remaining 5 miles. My goal is to be stronger this go round, and faster. Any advise you might have, or want to share your experiences, I would love to hear from you Joann@KBAC.com.

She helped me cross the finish line in Phoenix Rock n Roll marathon, 2005.This race is in October. I have to go home run, and get over to the Cowgirl for our IPA tasting.....
Get out there and see live music or go see a ballgame
